Well over three weeks ago, I did a call with Master Marketers, Andre Vatke and Steve Sakal, and the topic was… How To Spot A Fake Guru.

If this wasn’t happening to me, I don’t think I would believe it but the responses STILL keep pouring in!  And I would say, 99% ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!  And then of course, you know there’s that 1% of the angry people! (lol)

So today, I’m going to address the angry 1% who’ve said things like… “there is no such thing as a FAKE GURU because the people decide who the ‘guru’ is”.

Now of course I could go into more things the angry 1% have said and I may cover one or two…but really it’s pretty futile because one thing a very wise dude said to me was…

“when you stand strong and start showing the truth… the angry 1% will rear their ugly head and try and take the SPOTLIGHT off of themselves by discrediting you”

So the fact of the matter is… my perception is my perception… and the angry 1% have their own.

Thing is… the TRUTH will always sets you free.

So let’s get down to business and talk about… Is There Such A Thing As A Fake Guru?

Well, I say there is and here’s why…

A FAKE GURU can present themselves as a trusted mentor but in reality simply be a salesperson in disguise or even worse…a person that is so DELUSIONAL they can no longer decipher between reality and fantasy.

My case and point…

Have you ever heard of James Arthur Ray?

He went from Coach, to Guru, to International brand.  He was on Oprah and even did a cameo on “The Secret”.  He was also found responsible for three deaths and the hospitalization of 18 others.

I’m not going to get into his whole story, just GOOGLE… Sweat Lodge Guru.

Now, in terms of what the angry 1% say, he was a “GURU” because the people decide who the Guru is… does that make James Arthur Ray legitimate or fake?

I’d say in my simple language, that makes him a FAKE.  But in my BIG GIRL language, I could have said he was DECEPTIVE or FRAUDULENT.

The fact of the matter is…He did what he did and now he’s behind bars.

Now believe it or not…

I’ve also heard the angry 1% make innuendos that the people who EXPOSE the FAKE GURU are nothing more than weak victims.

Again everyone has their perceptions and I don’t know, what do you think?

Are you a weak victim to call some one out on their bullshit?

I think it takes COURAGE especially when there are still brainwashed followers involved.

Are you a weak victim because you’re tired of being EXPLOITED?

I think that means you’ve had enough and what you’re tired of the empty promises.

Are you a weak victim to voice your concern PUBLICLY in hopes of helping other people avoid future harm?  

I think it means you don’t have the herd mentality, you can think independently but more importantly you care about the well being of others.

Bottom line is… like I said… we all have our perceptions.

And in the book of Shelly Allen…

GURUS become FAKE when their personal agenda supercedes truly helping people solve their problems.

And just because people have followers, it doesn’t mean their advice is necessarily sound.

It can simply mean they are really good at ‘selling’ their idea or…

They are really good at influencing you with psychology to feed their own narcissism.

But don’t take my word for it… Quiet yourself and feel your intuition… it will never let you down.

You may or may not have heard it.  The topic was… How To Spot A Fake Guru

If you missed it, no big deal, you can read a blog post I did HERE on that very subject!

It was a good call but hindsight being 20/20 there are always things after the fact you wish you would have said.  Hence this blog post.

Now before I go any farther, I must say, after that call, if I wasn’t receiving them myself, I wouldn’t believe it!  The amount of emails and conversations I’ve had with people thanking me for having the COURAGE to STAND UP and SPEAK OUT LOUD what so many people are feeling and thinking, has been overwhelming.  (in a good way of course;))

And that alone FUELS ME to continue my quest in helping you understand the pitfalls out here on the Internet (or anywhere for that matter).  Regardless of what anyone says!

So let’s get down to the rest of the meat and potatoes… The 20/20 vision I didn’t share on my call.

Now granted I know the topic was on FAKE GURUS but in the grand scheme of things that term can be intertwined with Leadership Lacking Integrity…

So here’s my take when people in Leadership Lack Integrity…

• They make “justifications” and “excuses”
• They do a super job at making promises they never keep…
• They make commitments and never follow through…
• They become bullies when they are under pressure…
• They have a hard time sustaining success…
• And if they make a mistake…
• They blame others to get the SPOTLIGHT off of themselves…
• They try to makes others look weak and problematic…
• And they never assume responsibility for their failures.

On the FLIP side of that coin…

When people in Leadership are EMPOWERED…

• They have COURAGE when others are “concerned”…
• They stand strong in their VALUES no matter what…
• They do what they say and say what they do…
• They HONOR their commitments…
• But MOST importantly…
• If they make a mistake…
• They take full responsibility for their actions…
• They have have no problem apologizing when necessary and…
• They make their wrongs right;)

The topic was… How To Spot A Fake Guru

Right after the call was over, it dawned on me that, if you’re a networker marketer and your goal is to build a long term network marketing business…

Then you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY…

Did I mention REALLY?

You REALLY need to have a very good understanding of the differences between NETWORK marketing and AFFILIATE marketing.

ESPECIALLY if you are anything like me.  Because at one point in my career, I needed some serious help with growing my network marketing business and lo and behold…

I got mixed up with a (dishonest) list building/lead generation guru out here disguising what they are doing as a way to help you if you’re having trouble in your network marketing business.

And for the record… it was no fun!  I lost a lot of money and a lot of time.

Call me slow, call me trusting, call me whatever… Just don’t call me late for dinner.  KIDDING… I was seeing if you were really paying attention here!

Let me make this as short as possible…

Network Marketing is about building relationships with people and helping them achieve their desired goals.

Affiliate Marketing is about building a list of people, advertising to those people and then waiting for a response (sale) from those people.

For the most part you will use advertising and wait for a response in your Network Marketing business BUT…

And this is a BIG BUT…

Network Marketing is DUPLICATABLE for the masses (of course with basic, core skills) and will help you create a business that is PROFITABLE long term.

Affiliate Marketing, unless you’re TRULY SKILLED and have spent a number of years perfecting your CRAFT, can leave you up a creek without a paddle promoting other peoples shit and totally frustrated.

So in the end, this is where many of the (dishonest) list building/lead generation gurus miss the mark.

They don’t provide you with the BLUEPRINT you need to duplicate your efforts in your network marketing business (Because quite frankly, they don’t want to.  They like to keep you confused that way you keep forking over more MOOLAH to try and make sense of something that can’t possibly make sense!).

They simply sugar coat words, sell you product after product implying it will help you build your business which keeps you in constant “busy” mode and worst of all, it will leave you feeling more frustrated than before.

Hope this helps you in understanding the difference between Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.

I sometimes take for granted the GADS of KNOWLEDGE I have stored inside my NOGGIN and once in awhile I ASSume everyone I chat with understands exactly what I’m saying.

2.  Prosperity Central (This is the marketing tool I use to help me build my GBG business more effortlessly and also provide my team with an affordable, easy to use, dupicable system.)

3.  Leaders Club (This is where I get supplemental training and support to enhance my GBG business.  It’s also a reputable vendor for purchasing affordable leads.)

The other day a “friend” of mine by the name of Heather Calhoun posed this question:

“Are you a self-taught entrepreneur or did you invest in training? If you invested, what area did you invest in? (Leadership, Marketing, Sales..etc) How did you decipher who was legit and who was a ‘fake guru’, lol? I can’t wait to hear your responses!”

Of course there were many answers and if you’re a member of the group, you can easily find the thread.

However, I decided to make this blog post out of my answer because I thought it was good information that may help some folks that are looking into training.

So without further ado, here is my response:

OMG, do I have a list for you Heather Calhoun!

But before I lay it out…

I did both self education and have invested in training.

Here is what I observed about FAKE GOOROOS:

1. They cannot produce documentation.

2. They say that their clients identities are confidential and private.

3. They have NO STUDENTS to show.

4. They always do A LOT of talking instead of LISTENING.

5. They hide behind webinar screens.

6. They do not answer their phone.

7. They do not “do what they say or say what they do”.

8. They SELL more than they TEACH.

9. They blame their students for their lack of success instead of reevaluating their own ‘teaching’ method.

10. They subtly insert doubt into the minds of their students. (saying things like: most don’t succeed, most can’t follow instructions, most will never make it)

11. They can’t take their student from where they are at, to the next level.

12. They have no blueprint for success.

13. They talk in circles.

OK… I will stop there… as I see this list is turning into the ENERGIZER BUNNY!

I just had to share and NO this is NOT an April Fools joke.

I unofficially closed the month of March with 13 newly sponsored people into my businesses.  (Business #1, Business #2, Business #3)

What a pleasure and honor…;)

AND most importantly, I got my life back on track, I lost ten pounds (yes in a month) and I am learning to LOVE myself for WHO I am… (but this is a story for another time)

No, I’m not telling you this to brag or anything like that.

I’m telling you this because a year ago at this time…

I was gaining weight like crazy, I felt broken and helpless (even though you probably couldn’t tell) and I was stuck in a very dark spot in my Professional life and I was starting to question my ability to succeed.  (even though I had success in the past)

But then, one day, about 9 months ago, I woke up from the fog…

And I decided enough is enough!!!

There was NO one person who was going to HELP me succeed.

There was NO one person who has ALL the answers.

There was NO one person whose stage I had to stand on for success.

And there was NO one person who I was going to allow to SEDUCE me with their words.

I made the decision that…

I am WORTHY of being around people who really do care about me.

I am WORTHY of being around people who really do care about my success.

I am WORTHY of being around many people who have many answers.

And I am WORTHY of being told the TRUTH!!!

So if you’ve been in your network marketing business for some time and you are not experiencing the success you desire because…

Maybe you’re feeling unsure of yourself…

Maybe you’re feeling like you’re not good enough…

Maybe you’re feeling like you’ve been doing what you’ve been told to do but it’s just not working and now you’re feeling dumb…

Then maybe, just maybe, you are hanging out with the wrong person and/or crowd (like I was).

ONLY YOU know deep down inside what you are FEELING.

And here is what I know for sure about that…

If you are FEELING a bit off about WHAT you’re doing, WHO you’re doing it with and HOW you’re doing it…

It will hamper your SUCCESS!  I am living PROOF.

In closing, I just want you to know…

YOU can EXPERIENCE THE THRILL of SUCCESS beyond your WILDEST DREAMS…

Because YOU have everything it takes to be SUCCESSFUL.

YOU just have to learn to TRUST in yourself and be open to listening to HOW you FEEL.

Once you do… you will be amazed at how SURPRISINGLY SIMPLE success becomes!
