Bullshit vs. Straight Talk In Your Network Marketing Business

So my intentions today were to wake up, study a little and then get my day on…

Well, I got the waking up done, I did study a little and then before I could get my day on…

I had to write this unexpected blog post because I know… the unexpected ones are always BEST!!!

It was inspired by a forum post question I answered over at BetterNetworker.

The question was, Do you tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth?  It was asked by my friend, Joyce Penner, and it was in reference to telling your ‘story’.

I figure since you might not be a member over at that community I would simply turn it into a public blog post for everyone’s benefit!

So here it goes…

From my experience, it’s best to tell the whole truth but here’s the thing… TRUTH is… people have their own TRUTHS.  I know that sounds weird but stay with me and listen to this…

At one point in my career, I had a person sharing with me their ‘truth’ (story)…

On the surface I had no reason to ‘doubt’ that person because everything they said ‘sounded’ good.

However… something inside of me (gut) always FELT OFF when hearing this person’s ‘truth’ (story) but my logic kept overriding it.

Until one day, I finally slowed down enough to really pay attention to this person’s ‘truth’ (story) and I realized it wasn’t my truth and it didn’t match my VALUES because what finally happened was…

Not only did their ‘truth’ (story) keep changing ever so slightly, they didn’t practice what they were preaching and their “kept secrets” started slipping out, one by one.

So getting back to the question at hand…(I rabbit trail a lot…lol)

“Do you tell the whole truth, nothing but the truth?”

I think it’s best to tell ‘your’ whole truth as it will mesh with the right people.

Not to mention, if you intentionally leave out the bad or spin anything with your story… sooner or later the TRUTH will come to the surface and if it’s not what you’ve been painting a picture of all along…most people have a built in bullshit meter and can see through the crap.

Once that happens…watch out because it can and will have some serious repercussions on YOU and your network marketing business.

Anyway… I suppose the moral to my story is…

Speak your TRUTH as you know it, the right people will find (vibe with) you…

And ALWAYS pay attention to the “FEELING” you get when listening to another persons ‘truth’ (story) because that “FEELING” (bullshit meter) is usually RIGHT ON (good or bad)

Plus… the best part is… like Mark Twain said, “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”

Until next time…

Nothing but LOVE & FUN + DOWN & DIRTY…

Thanks for inspiring the post, Joyce!

I always try to speak the TRUTH as I know it…

Might not be everyone’s TRUTH but…

The FACT OF THE MATTER IS…

I ONLY have to look at myself in the mirror…:)

      TOUCHE…

      Let’s ROCK 2012!

Shelly, you nailed it here. I actually got a little sad thinking about the BS that is sold as truth (I know too many inside stories)… but I’m grateful for every warrior that is dedicated to integrity for the industry. There’s no reason everyone can’t be successful AND proud of being a networker… the key to this is creating an industry that shuns BS. 🙂 Merry Christmas!

If they TRULY desire success… it will be theirs for the taking!

      Thanks for stopping by…

Merry Christmas to YOU and Yours Andre!

This is such an important topic for any consultant per se. If you stretch the truth one day the people who were ready to go to war with you will turn their back on you with extreme disappointment. The thing is even if you had something important to teach them they will not want your advice no matter how good or valuable it is. And the saddest part is, they really need you. It is up to you to value their loyalty.

      What’s even more sad Lidia…

Is when a TRUSTED “consultant” crosses that line and stretches the TRUTH…

Not only will the team members not want the advice no matter “how good or valuable” it is…

Bad news TRAVELS faster than the SPEED OF LIGHT and it’s a quick way to have a REPUTATION RUINED!

That’s exactly what happened to someone I know, the part with reputation ruined. You can’t even imagine how fast it happened..
