Where To Use Keywords In Your Content

The other day I wrote an article and posted it over at Betternetworker: Why Keywords Are Important To Online Marketing.

Now, I want to talk to you about…

Where To Use Keywords In Your Content

So, you’ve taken the time to develop a comprehensive list of keywords which will help you improve your search engine rankings and you might be wondering…

What’s the next step?

Well, they need to be added to your website and placed so that they can dramatically make a difference.

Search engines, such as Google, Yahoo!, and Bing specifically look for keywords and key phrases where you would naturally emphasize key points like in your title, headings and subheadings.

With that being said, ideally, they should be placed within these HTML locations:   <p> … </p>, <img alt=”keywords”>, <H1>…</H1>, <H2>…</H2>, <H3>…</H3>, etc.  ( For a GREAT place to learn more about HTML visit w3schools.com)

Search engines also use the first few lines of a web page in search result listings if there is no description tag.  So, placing relevant keywords in the first few sentences is always a smart idea.  Keywords placed closer to the top of a page have more impact than those lower down.

As well, it’s important to remember that search engines don’t appreciate content that is overloaded with keywords.  The goal should be to keep text natural sounding by not letting the use of keywords and key phrases exceed three to five percent of the words used.

One more thing before I go…

You can also benefit from linking keywords to other pages on your site and using them in tags.

By having the words that your customers are searching for on your site, along with having them strategically placed, you can significantly improve your ability to be found online.
